Herdsmen In Ekiti To Register With N5000

Following the latest attack launched by suspected herdsmen in Ekiti State, Governor Ayo Fayose has given all herdsmen in the state a three-month ultimatum to register in their respective locations to identify them. They are to register with a sum of N5,000 each in a bid to know who should be held responsible in the event of any further attacks in the state. Fayose also vowed to hold the Sarkin Fulani (Head of Fulanis) in Ekiti State, Muhammad Abashe, personally responsible for any further attacks in his domain.

Suspected Herdsmen Kill 5 In Adamawa, Delta States

No fewer than four persons are feared dead following a midnight attack by suspected herdsmen on Kikon, a village in the Numan Local Government of Adamawa State. The herdsmen were said to have stormed the community around 1am on Sunday, burning down the entire village and killing two men and two women. Othman Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Adamawa State Police Command, confirmed the attack, adding that four people were killed in the incident. Also in Delta State, at least one person has been killed in a fresh attack by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen at Onicha-Olona community, Delta State.

Shoprite Loses In Court, $10m Awarded Against It

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has entered judgment against Shoprite Checkers Limited, the operator of Shoprite outlets in Nigeria, in a $10m breach of contract suit filed against it by A.I.C. Limited. The court, in a judgment by Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo, ordered Shoprite Checkers Limited and Retail Supermarkets Nigeria Limited, which was joined as second defendant in the suit, to pay the judgment sum with an annual interest of 10 per cent from the day he delivered the judgment till the sum is finally liquidated. The court also awarded an additional N1m against the defendants in favour of the claimant as the cost of pursuing the lawsuit which commenced in 2012.

Indications have emerged that the Lagos State Government will soon fill the vacant stool of Olu of Ikeja, four years after the last monarch of the community passed on. According to Vaguard, Sources close to a closed-door meeting between the chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Lagos, Alhaji Mojeed Balogun and core pressure group in Ikeja, the Gbobaniyi Royal Association, weekend, said the council boss informed chiefs and elders of the community “to work towards mending fences, as the state government is set to name a new Oba for Ikeja.”

Bayelsa To Shut Down Sub-Stand Private Schools

So many private schools, at lest 250 will be shut in Bayelsa State for failing to meet required standards. Mr Jonathan Obuebite, the state Commissioner for Education, disclosed this yesterday in Yenagoa. He said some of the schools operate in one bedroom apartment which is not conducive for learning. He said though some of the schools have certificate of registration, they will be deregistered for failing to take advantage of the period of grace accorded them to rectify their deficiencies.
