The winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said that he will pay the backlog of salaries owed civil servants in the state within the first six months of his return to office. Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress beat Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party in a keenly contested race to succeed the incumbent Governor Ayodele Fayose. Speaking at his residence in Isan-Ekiti, the former Minister of Solid Mineral Development, said Ekiti State lost value under Fayose, while also promising to re-introduce free education in the state. He said, “Ekiti people should expect the eight-point agenda redoubled. They should expect the backlog of salaries cleared within the first six months of my coming to the office. They should expect re-introduction of free education, including payment of fees for the West Africa Examination Council, National Examination Council, National Business and Technical Examinations Board and the national entrance examination into tertiary institutions which they lost out on.

A non-governmental organisation, Human and Environmental Development Agenda Resource Centre, has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, calling for the probe of the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, over media reports alleging that she forged an exemption certificate of the National Youth Service Corps. HEDA, in the petition by its Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, said it wanted Adeosun prosecuted should the forgery allegation be established. Also, an anti-corruption group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, challenged the minister to break her silence and respond to the allegation.

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose says he is not afraid of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and that he will not run away from the country after the expiration of his tenure. There has been insinuations online that Fayose plans to escape. His spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, said: “He is not afraid of anything. What are they going to do to him. Is EFCC the court of law?”

The Special Assistant on Social Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie has reacted to the prophecy of the General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleman, on Ekiti election. In the prophecy, Apostle Suleman said the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP would emerge winner of the just concluded election. However, a reverse was the case on Saturday as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Kayode Fayemi was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

According to her, "God will continue to disgrace Pastors who tell lies with God’s name.’ Onochie tweeted, “God told me expressly that APC is finished in Nigeria & you will see how God will disgrace them in Ekiti. They will lose heavily~Apostle Suleiman May 2018. “A 'Pastor' who is not in talking terms with God but who continues to lie with God’s name. God will continue to disgrace them.”
