You Promised To Create Not Kill Jobs – NLC reminds Buhari

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari's endorsement of the sack of about 22,000 teachers by the Kaduna state government, saying it was regrettable that a government that promised to create jobs for the people is rather killing jobs.

Deputy President of NLC, Comrade Peters Adeyemi told The Nation that the President was wrong in backing the decision by the Kaduna state government without hearing from the representatives of the workers, pointing out that the President should realize that the entire country was his constituency.

President Buhari reportedly backed the action of the Kaduna state government to embark on a mass sack of teachers who allegedly failed competency test, but the NLC is insisting that the government made up its mind to sack workers and not because the teachers failed an exam.

He said: “We just heard about that and I doubt if that is correct. If that is correct, then one is in doubt whether the President was well informed. Clearly, as a father, the President is expected to listen to all the sides to a story. It will be unfortunate if the President took a position by only listening to the governor of Kaduna state which we know is a party person.

“The President should realize that the entire country is his constituency and every Organisation including the Labour movement is part of his constituency. So, it is unfortunate that statement was made.

We must adapt our Education Policy to fit in with new trends – VP Osinbajo

*Advocates use of technology for mass education

Let me first commend the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, not just for hosting this retreat, but more importantly for subjecting the education plan to critical interrogation so that all of us have had a chance to contribute to developing what everyone agrees is the most important foundation we can lay now and for the future.

I also want to commend and thank both Professors Omolewa and Okebukola for the very excellent direction they have brought to the proceedings here today, and always for their informed insights. These are veterans and I’m sure by just listening to them, you can tell that they have gone through every possible education plan. I’m glad to see that they are not cynical and they are still very hopeful that we will get it right.

I just wanted to make a few comments before I declare the proceedings closed. I think that for everything that we’ve heard, the most important things for now are implementation, implementation, and implementation!

Memorise: If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work. – 2 Timothy 2:21

Read: 2 Timothy 2:19-21 (KJV)

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

5 Things You Totally Shouldn’t Do When You’re Broke

Being broke sucks, however being broke is not something magical that can hardly be explained - one financial irresponsibility or surprise leads to another and another, and before you know it you get to that point. You might not always be able to avoid being broke but there are things you can do when broke to avoid aggravating the situation.

Jumia Travel shares 5 things you totally shouldn’t do when you’re broke.

Look Down on Jobs
As long as the job is legal and ethical, you really should consider it. If you’re broke, chances are you do not have the luxury to be selective. However, this does not mean you should let desperation take the forefront and dabble into things that are just plain silly, but it does mean that you should be more open than rigid to opportunities, even if it is just till you’re able to get back on your feet.

Memorise: And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. – Acts 13:3

Read: Acts 13:1-3 (KJV)

1 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

2 As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

3 And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
